STUDIO FAQ’s

WHAT BENEFITS SHOULD I EXPECT TO SEE FROM REFORMER PILATES?

We believe that a healthy body is only a bi product of a healthy lifestyle. So it’s important we find joy in the exercise and movement we choose to participate in. We hope that coming to Pilates and laying down for most of it keeps you coming back for more. And if you do manage to practice consistently, expect to see the following-

-A clearer and more balanced mental wellbeing

-Improvement in your posture, functional strength and flexibility.

-Increased body awareness

-Deep core strength, better stability and balance

-A decrease in general aches and pains

-A new obsession for lunges

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I PRACTICE REFORMER PILATES?

This one is really down to personal preference and how much we can realistically put to one side in our busy lives. It’s so important to carve out quality time for ourselves where we can but we understand life doesn’t always permit. That being said, here is what we would personally recommend.

Reformer is safe to practice every day. However, if it’s not the only form of movement you do, aim for at least 1-2 times per week of consistent practice if you can.

IM WORKING WITH AN INJURY OR CONDITION, CAN I STILL ATTEND?

Yes! Reformer was invented for rehabilitating injured soldiers from their hospital beds. And although we are a contemporary/dynamic studio, our Foundation classes are suitable for almost everyone. You must be signed off by your doctor to participate and please inform your instructor before class. Start slow. Your first few classes will be to observe how you are feeling and your instructor will modify for you where possible. Once your confidence builds and you’re feeling good, chat to your instructor about progressing to Classic Reformer instead.

IM PREGNANT CAN I STILL ATTEND?

Congratulations! If you have never exercised before and plan to start now, please email the studio so we can advise accordingly. If you are used to a lot of movement or have attended regular classes elsewhere, in the first trimester you can continue with whatever feels good to you. From the second trimester we recommend starting the transition to Foundations Reformer only. Third trimester, strictly Foundations Reformer from this point forward. The goal towards the end, is gentle movement for you and baby, breath control and a peaceful wellbeing. Please inform your instructor before class.

IM POST NATAL CAN I STILL ATTEND?

Yes! Providing you have the sign off from your doctor to exercise- welcome back! Please inform your instructor before class. Start gentle with Foundations Reformer to begin with and observe how you feel. It’s important to build up slowly to Classic Reformer. There’s no rush, be kind to yourself, you just birthed a human.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO A SESSION?

Wear whatever makes you feel the most comfortable! Remember your legs will be in the air at times and you’ll be moving around the Reformer throughout the class.

SOCKS?

Socks are required to participate in Reformer Pilates at SFG. This is for hygiene purposes. Grip socks are preferred.

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

We have a 12 hour cancellation policy. Cancellations made outside this time, your credits will be returned to you. Cancellation made within the 12 hours, credits will not be returned.

WHAT IS YOUR LATENESS POLICY?

This is a big one for us. We operate a strict 0 minute lateness policy. Please aim to arrive 10 minutes before the start of class. Unfortunately, Reformer Pilates isn’t a class you can quietly sneak into unnoticed at the back. It requires a bit of a noisy bed set-up, time for people to inform the instructor of any injuries or conditions and the important grounding breath work in the beginning. To allow any latecomers would result in heavily disturbing the class and distracting the instructor.

CAN I USE MY PHONE IN CLASS?

We are a no phone zone. Take the opportunity to switch off from the outside world. We have on open wardrobe inside the studio where we recommend you store any valuables including your phone. Photos are permitted after class providing you are considerate to other clients.

WHAT FACILITIES DO YOU HAVE?

We have toilets and a changing/waiting room for you to relax in before and after class. There is tea, coffee and water available complimentary to you.

HOW LONG AFTER THE CLASS FINISHES DO YOU CLOSE?

We close around 10-15 minutes after the last class has ended. Please be considerate to your instructor who will need to lock up the studio and get home for some well deserved down time.
